So many hours of pleasure have we found through following the adventures of the Great Detective that we decided to honor his memory in a series of very special pipe tobaccos. We call this our 221B Series, deriving the name from his celebrated Baker Street address. The first in the series, Black Shag, was introduced at the 1997 “Sherlock Holmes” meeting of the Richmond Conclave of Pipe Smokers. We at McClelland enjoy the challenge of deducing the preferences of Mr. Holmes. We hope you will find pleasure in the fruit of our effort.
BLACK SHAG. Sherlock Holmes kept it in the toe of a Persian Slipper nailed to the mantelpiece. It was dry and strong. Kept at what we today have deduced to be proper smoking moisture and smoked gently, this excellent stoved shag will provide hours of smoking pleasure. Smoke at once, if convenient. Examine the ash carefully.
ARCADIA. It was said to be of such arresting character, such delicacy that it stopped all conversation. Holmes recognized it by its characteristic fluffy, white ash. It was Dr. Watson's favorite. It is our hope that this formula, deduced after careful study of several vintage examples of what was known as the original and made available to us by dedicated collectors, will please the most discriminating smokers.
HONEYDEW. The sweet, fragrant Honeydew was all gone by the time Susan Cushing offered the container to Sherlock Holmes, but he was undoubtedly familiar with this fine Irish flake’s gratifying flavor, its pleasing aroma and gentleness on the palate. It is a subtly sweet, fragrant flake tobacco in the Irish tradition. |
